MODERN LINE DANCE

I started teaching the Friday classes at Christchurch Centre in 1999 – and 26 years later – we are still going!  When we first started Line Dancing over here in the UK, it was done to almost exclusively to American Country Music, but Line dancing today is no longer all thigh slapping and ‘Yee hah-ing’ – although we still do dances to Country music, we now dance to all sorts of other music genres – from Pop to Latin, Country to Irish! So, whatever your taste in music – we can line dance to it! The dance routines we teach are many and varied and lots of the steps are ‘borrowed’ from other dance styles, so you might find yourself dancing Cha Cha, Waltz or even Tango steps as well as sometimes doing the old traditional Heel & Hook!

And the beauty?  Because it’s partner less – you don’t have to worry about stepping on any one else’s toes – except your own!

We welcome Beginners, Improvers and Intermediate dancers to the classes, but if you are a complete beginner and have not danced before – as these are established classes – it may take you a few weeks to get the hang of it – but don’t worry – you will get there!  Our Friday classes are relaxed, fun and friendly where you can learn a new skill, which is good for the brain, make new friends, which is good for the spirit and at the same time you gain the benefits of physical exercise, which we all know is good for us. No partner required…just bring your feet – two left ones will do 🙂

If you have any questions – please email – maria@dancegeneration.co.uk or phone/text/message on 07811 823467

If you have any health worries, and are unsure whether or not line dancing is a suitable activity for you, please check with your GP.  We do hold First Aid Certificates and are fully insured.

Most of our dancers come along once a week to a class to have a bit of fun, learn to dance and to spend time with friends.

WHAT TO WEAR & BRING
Wear loose comfortable clothing you can move freely in.  Layers are good as you might get a bit hot.  We recommend you also bring a drink with you.

FOOTWEAR
For your feet – we suggest supportive low (wide) heeled shoes/boots that are fairly smooth soled, to enable you to turn with ease on the dance floor. Ordinary trainers or flat shoes with thick soles are not recommended, as they can cause stress to your ankles and knees. You need to be able to swivel easily on the balls of your feet and shoes with a ‘grippy’ sole will make it much harder to dance.  High heels, flip flops and loose fitting sandals are also unsuitable.

You may find that once you are coming along regularly, you would like to invest in a pair of dance shoes.  Split sole dance trainers are a good recommendation or a low heeled Latin/Ballroom shoe or a pair of Cuban heeled ‘character’ shoes with a leather sole.  Or the Greek Sandals, which you can get in all sorts of colours and even glittery – are the most popular.

Here are some examples:
