Come and learn to dance the easy way – no partner required! These classes aim to gently teach you the basic rhythms of the main Ballroom/Latin & Modern Line dances with easy to learn routines and a selection of music from the last 50 years. The emphasis is very much on having fun, moving your body and also exercising your brain as you learn basic techniques and steps of Ballroom/Latin & Modern Line dance genres – covering Waltz, Tango, Cha Cha, Mambo, Rumba, Jive etc, without having to worry about stepping on anyone’s toes (except your own).
The first class class is an easy gentle introduction to dancing teaching the basic steps and different rhythms used in Modern Line/Ballroom/Latin dancing – and the later class is for those who have mastered the basics and are looking for routines that are a little more challenging than the earlier class, with different timings and rhythms – but all designed to get your brain working a bit more as well as your feet!
No partner required. Classes are very easy-going and friendly with the emphasis on having fun and making friends whilst learning a new skill.
The Dance studio is almost opposite the library and there is is plenty of cheap parking in the town centre car parks. The Goodman Dance Centre is a lovely airy, bright, air-conditioned dance studio with a gorgeous sprung maple floor (very kind to the knees!).
There is no need to book – just turn up. We are a very friendly bunch!

FOOTWEAR
For your feet – we suggest supportive low (wide) heeled shoes/boots that are fairly smooth soled, to enable you to turn with ease on the dance floor. Ordinary trainers or flat shoes with thick soles are not recommended, as they can cause stress to your ankles and knees. You need to be able to swivel easily on the balls of your feet and shoes with a ‘grippy’ sole will make it much harder to dance. High heels, flip flops and loose fitting sandals are also unsuitable.
You may find that once you are coming along regularly, you would like to invest in a pair of dance shoes. Split sole dance trainers are a good recommendation or a low heeled Latin/Ballroom shoe or a pair of Cuban heeled ‘character’ shoes with a leather sole. Or the Greek Sandals, which you can get in all sorts of colours and even glittery – are the most popular.

BEGINNERS CLASS – Introduction to DANCING-IN-LINE for Absolute Beginners
this new class will cover the basic steps, rhythms and tempos used in Modern Line Dance/Dancing-in-Line. Covering Cha Cha, Waltz, Jive, Mambo, Samba, Tango and Rumba. The emphasis is very much on having fun, moving your body and also exercising your brain as you learn. And, you don’t have to worry about treading on anyone’s toes (apart from your own!). Please wear loose, comfortable clothing you can move freely in – layers are good – and I recommend a smooth soled shoe with a low/small heel if possible. Please do not wear trainers or anything that is too ‘grippy’ as you need to be able to swivel your feel easily without sticking to the floor. You night want to bring a bottle of water too.
