Please can we have ALL show costume money in by Friday 8th June! It’s £20 per pupil. See NEWSLETTER below for details:
NEWSLETTER JUNE 2018
Just a quick update to let you know that we are now in the final half term leading up to SHOWTIME!!!
PLEASE can you make every effort to come to classes these last few weeks so that everyone gets as much practise and rehearsal time as possible. This makes the children feel far more confident on stage if they know the routines rather than trying to ‘keep up’. If anyone needs extra help – please ask!
TERM FEES & CLASS NEWS
This is a SIX week term – so the fee is £36 per pupil (less 10% discount for siblings). ALL Fees are payable HALF TERMLY IN ADVANCE. Please can we have cash in an envelope marked with your child’s name, a cheque made payable to Dance Generation or you can do a BACS transfer – details below. Please put your child’s name in the reference.
SORT CODE: 09-06-66 ACCT#: 43683704 NAME: Dance Generation
DANCE SHOW & AWARDS PRESENTATION
The SHOW DATE is: SUNDAY 15th July. There will be ONE performance at 5:30pm. The show is being held at Mick Jagger Centre, Shepherds Lane, Dartford, DA1 1JZ.
COSTUME FUND & CONFIRMATION SLIP
If you have not handed back the confirmation slip or paid the COSTUME FUND money – please can we have it as soon as possible. The Costume Fund money this year is £20. You need to ensure that your child has the basic Dance Generation uniform and dance shoes.
We will be sending out another email closer to the show, telling you more about uniform, hair and what performers need to bring on the night of the show etc.
Tickets will go on sale as from Monday 4th June. We are expecting to sell out the MJC this year as we have added two more classes, and the front rows always get snapped up quickly! Tickets for the show are £10 for Adults & £8 for under 16’s/OAP/Concessions. We sell our own tickets and you can reserve and buy tickets from us at class or you can text/phone to reserve on 078 118 23467. ALL reserved tickets MUST be paid for within 7 days or at the next dance class or they will go back on sale! DO NOT CONTACT the Mick Jagger Centre for tickets as they won’t be able to help you!
Click here to be taken to the MJC website and the seating plan for the auditorium. Please note that we do not use ‘The Pit’ – Rows A, B, C – the first row is D and this is reserved for those with wheelchairs or severe mobility problems. ROW R (balcony seating) is also accessible for wheelchairs as there is a lift. We personally think that the best seats are ROWS G, H & J – but ALL the seats give a good view of the stage! Please only ask for disabled seats if you really need them!
We are still looking for a few extra people who would be willing to help out backstage with the children. This involves helping them into their costumes and escorting them to and from the stage after they have danced. If you would like to offer your help, please let us know.

NEWSLETTER APRIL 2018
We hope you are all having a lovely relaxing Easter break – and you haven’t eaten too much chocolate! Don’t forget that classes are back THIS Monday coming! If anyone has any friends who would like to join – now is a good time as we are working towards our dance show, which is always good fun and we have some new exciting routines to teach the children!
Before we get into Show mode – we would just like to congratulate all the children who took their IDTA Dance Exams before Easter. We had a lovely Examiner from the IDTA, and we were absolutely delighted with our results, especially the girls who took the high grade medals and those who took an Exam for the first time.
We’re also sure you’ll join us in congratulating Zoe who was awarded Distinction in her IDTA Associate Professional Freestyle Teaching exam and also to Megan who is now a qualified Pre Associate. If you haven’t already got the Exam report back, we will give them out at classes after Easter. Certificates & trophies will be presented at the Dance Show, later this year.
SUMMER TERM DATES / FEES
Classes are back on MONDAY 16th April. The Half Term fee for THURSDAY CLASSES is £36 and MONDAY CLASS is £30 – this is due to the May Day Bank holiday. These fees take us up to the end of May and then the second half term fee due at the beginning of June is £36 for both classes.
Please can we have cash in an envelope marked with your child’s name or a cheque made payable to DANCE GENERATION. You can also pay by Bank Transfer: Please put your child’s name in the reference box.
Account Name: Dance Generation Account Number: 43683704 Sort Code: 09-06-66
The Show date is SUNDAY 15th JULY at the Mick Jagger Centre in Dartford. The doors will open at approx 5:00pm and the show will start at 5:30pm. If you know that your child will not be free to take part in the show for any reason – PLEASE let us know as soon as possible. A lot of our Show dances are choreographed with formations and telling us two weeks before the Show that you’re not going to be there as you’re off on holiday can cause us lots of problems! Tickets will go on sale at the beginning of June and will be £10 for adults and £8 for children under 16 and concessions.
DVD & SHOW PHOTOGRAPHY
Following last years not so successful DVD we are looking for someone who would be willing and able to video our show for us and then transfer it onto a DVD. We don’t want anything fancy – just a static camera will do, so that we have a video of our dancers/the routines and the presentation. We know that a lot of people do record some of the show themselves on tablets and phones, so a ‘proper’ DVD is not really necessary anymore – however, we would still like the whole show recorded. If anyone can help out – please get in touch – details are at the bottom of this newsletter. We are also on the lookout for a photographer as well.
We will be presenting our own SPECIAL AWARDS at the Show… could your child be one of our Award winners this year? STUDENT of the YEAR AWARD winner gets FREE dance lessons for the coming year!
As most of you know – we don’t ask anyone to buy or pay out extortionate sums for their child’s costumes for our dance show. We supply ALL costumes for the show and all we ask is that each child donates just £20 towards their costumes for the show. Costumes are then either bought or hired in – which is much less costly than each child buying individual costumes – which generally never get used again.
Please can we have all Costume Fund money in by the end of MAY.
UNIFORM & SHOES
A reminder that once your child is coming along regularly to the dance classes, please make sure they are in correct uniform – which is plain black leggings and a Dance Generation T shirt. We also recommend that they wear proper dance shoes. You can buy dance shoes from us – the plain Jazz shoes are £15 and the Jazz Web trainers are £30. You might be able to get them cheaper at any good dancewear shop or off the internet on ebay etc. but if you need advice, please come and see us. DG T shirts are £10 (children’s sizes) & £15 (adult sizes). We also have red Hoodies which are an optional part of the uniform. Hoodies are £25 with name on the front.
Thank you for your support of the dance school. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let us know. We value your feedback.
We hope you’ve all had a lovely half term break and we are looking forward to seeing everyone back to classes this coming week.
We sent out an email earlier this week with information about the Showcase (Junior/Senior & Advanced groups). If you have not had it – please let us know. Info was also posted on our Facebook GROUP page.
The dance classes are payable HALF TERMLY in advance – after your first half term trial. The fee for the coming half term (up to Easter is) £36. There is a 10% discount for siblings. Please can we have cash in an envelope with your child’s name on it or please make any cheques payable to DANCE GENERATION.
You can also pay by bank transfer (BACS) – details are:
Sort Code: 09-06-66 Acct #: 43683704 Name: DANCE GENERATION
Please can you put your child’s name in the reference. Fees are due this coming week.
First of all we are delighted to let you know that our annual dance Exam session has been booked with the IDTA for Saturday 17th March at the Golf Club (Thursday classes venue). We have Joyce Welford as our Examiner. The session starts at 10:00 and runs until 15:00. The golf club has free parking and a bar where you can get tea/coffee/drinks and food etc and is an excellent venue for our exams. Below you will find links to a PDF leaflet with all the information you need about the Exams and an Entry form for you to print off.
The dance exams are not compulsory, but we do encourage and recommend the children enter for an Exam, as this builds confidence in their dancing abilities. We also hold a special Awards Presentation in the Summer, and it’s lovely to see the children rewarded for all their hard work in classes and presented with their trophy and certificate from the IDTA. The attached leaflets should give you all the information you need, but if you have any questions, come and see us during class or you can email etc. If you have other commitments on that Saturday and can only make a morning or an afternoon slot, please let us know as soon as possible.
DANCE UNIFORM & SHOES
We would like all the children to have a T shirt as part of their dance ‘uniform’ (the Hoodies are an optional item) There are also scoop neck vest tops available for the Senior Groups if anyone would prefer those to a T shirt. Black leggings or Jazz trousers and proper dance shoes should also be worn to classes. Dance shoes are a good investment as they are specially made to support the feet whilst allowing an element of ‘swivel’ without putting pressure on the knees – unlike trainers, which are often too ‘grippy’ and ‘clunky’. We sell all items of dancewear & shoes. Please ask for a price list and order form at classes. T shirts are £10 (kids sizes) £15 (adult sizes) and the hoodies are £25 with your name on the front. Jazz shoes are £15 and the Jazz trainers are from £30.
Just a quick reminder for the Senior & Advanced classes to remember to bring knee pads every week!
We’d just like to say to all our lovely dancers – you’re all brilliant and we are very proud of you all – keep up the good work and the Show this year is going to be AWESOME!
JANUARY NEWSLETTER 2018
We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too!
Just a quick reminder that we are back to classes as from Monday 8th January. It’s only a five weeks term so the half term fee is only £30.
We prefer payment by BANK TRANSFER if you can do that. If you want to pay cash – please could we have it in an envelope with your child’s name on it (I will give you a receipt if you pay by cash) or you can make cheques payable to DANCE GENERATION.
Details for BANK TRANSFERS are:
Please put your child’s name in the reference box. Don’t forget there is a 10% discount for siblings. If your child has just joined us and is still on the six week trial, then the classes are £6 paid weekly.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
DANCE Generation is celebrating 15 years of teaching the children this year! We’ve got some surprises planned for later on – so we hope you’ll be helping us celebrate… more details to follow!
We said goodbye to Nickie at the end of 2017 as she leaves us to follow her dream to establish her own dance & musical theatre classes in the Bromley/Beckenham area. We’d like to wish her every success for the future and thank her for all her hard work and dedication to DG.
Zoe, Maria & Naomi will continue to teach the children with support from our very gorgeous and talented student dance teachers, Stephanie & Megan. We have some new and exciting routines for all classes this term as we start work towards the Exams and then Show (which is SUNDAY 15th July – put that in your diary!)
This term we will be working towards our IDTA EXAMS. All children are offered the opportunity to take their dancing Exams, and although it is not compulsory, we do encourage them to take an Exam as this helps to build confidence in their dancing. The provisional EXAM date is Saturday 17th March, but this is still subject to confirmation from the IDTA, so as soon as we know, we will let you know.
FOA FEBRUARY SHOWCASE
We have been invited again by the Focus On The Arts organisation to take part in the next Showcase which is Saturday 24th February at the mick jagger centre. This time we will have a minimum of FOUR slots for our dancers. We will be sending out a separate letter with full details on this – but if your child is in the JUNIOR or the SENIOR/ADVANCED groups, please would you make a note in your diary of the date.
UNIFORM & SHOES
All children are encouraged to wear our uniform – which is a T shirt or a vest top for the Senior class, with the name of the dance school and black leggings. T shirts are £10 for children’s sizes and the vest tops and Adult T shirts are £15. Red Hoodies are also available for £25 with your name on the front.
Once your child has been coming to us regularly, we also recommend that you get them some proper dance shoes. These are specially designed to protect and support the feet and allow an element of ‘swivel’ without putting pressure on the knees. A plain rubber soled Jazz Shoe or a Jazz trainer are both suitable. We can supply dance shoes for your or you can purchase them at any good dancewear shop or off the internet on ebay etc. if you need advice, please come and see us.
Thank you for your support of the dance school. If anyone has any ides or suggestion, please let us know. We value your feedback.
Here’s to another happy year of dancing!
